MBOT COURTESY CALL TO THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM MALAYSIA

March 2, 2026 - In a significant move to bridge academic excellence with professional industry standards, the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) recently hosted a high-level courtesy call from the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT). Professor Ir Dr Mohd Shahir Liew, Vice Provost (Research and Knowledge Exchange), received the delegation which included Dr. Md Fauzi bin Md Ismail, Registrar of MBOT, and Ts. Dr. Nor Aznan bin Mohd Nor, Director of the Technology and Technical Accreditation Secretariat.

The meeting focused on aligning UNM's academic offerings with MBOT's professional framework. Key initiatives discussed include:
-Program Accreditation: Ensuring UNM's technology programmes meet the rigorous standards set by the Technology and Technical Accreditation Council.
-Professional Recognition: Encouraging UNM academic staff to obtain professional recognition as Professional Technologists (Ts.) or Certified Technicians (Tc.), enhancing the university's industry-led teaching profile.
-Short Course Certification: Developing accredited micro-credentials and short courses to upskill the workforce in specialized technical fields.

One of the most exciting takeaways for the IT and computing related programmes is the link to the Seoul Accord. MBOT accreditation serves as a "golden ticket" for IT and computing related programmes. By meeting these standards, UNM graduates are recognized as being on par with professionals in other Seoul Accord signatory countries (such as the US, UK, Australia, and Japan).
