Published: 06 Aug 2026, 03:32 PM | Year: 2026
Aug 6, 2026 - Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) recently received a courtesy visit from the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), reflecting the shared commitment of both institutions towards advancing technology education and professional development in Malaysia.
The MBOT delegation was welcomed by YBrs. Prof. Ts. Dr. Norhana binti Abdul Halim, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International Affairs), together with members of the University’s management team. Leading the delegation was YBrs. Ts. Dr. Nor Aznan bin Mohd Nor, Director of the Technology and Technical Accreditation Secretariat (TTAS), accompanied by Assistant Directors Auni Batrisya Mohamad Zaihan and Muhammad Izzat Hakimi bin Mustaffa.
The visit served as an avenue for constructive engagement between MBOT and UPNM, focusing on efforts to strengthen the quality, relevance, and industry alignment of technology-related academic programmes. Both parties exchanged perspectives on current developments within the technology landscape and explored opportunities to further enhance graduates’ readiness for the evolving demands of the workforce.
Among the key matters highlighted was the growing importance of computing and information technology-related programmes in supporting national aspirations for digital transformation and technological advancement. The discussion also explored potential areas of collaboration that could contribute to the continuous enhancement of programme quality and industry relevance.
MBOT also shared information on its latest initiative, namely the Conversion of Bachelor’s Degree Programmes in Computing and IT-related for Seoul Accord Recognition. The initiative is intended to facilitate greater participation among higher education institutions, particularly for programmes that have yet to obtain MBOT accreditation and Seoul Accord recognition, while promoting international recognition of Malaysian computing and IT qualifications.
In line with MBOT’s strategic direction, the initiative supports the implementation of a policy whereby, beginning in 2027, only graduates from MBOT-accredited programmes recognised under the Seoul Accord will be eligible to register as Graduate Technologists and Professional Technologists (Ts.) in the fields of Information Technology (IT), Cyber Security Technology (CS), and Creative and Multimedia Technology (AM).
The engagement concluded with both MBOT and UPNM reaffirming their commitment to fostering a future-ready technology ecosystem through stronger collaboration, academic excellence, and the development of highly skilled technology professionals capable of meeting the needs of an increasingly digital and innovation-driven economy.
